Overview

The Africa HIV and TB Hubs, established by the Africa Economic Forum International Development (AEFID), represent a dual initiative aimed at combating two of the most significant health challenges in Africa: HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis (TB). These hubs were launched in 2023 as part of a comprehensive strategy to address the intertwined epidemics of HIV and TB, which disproportionately affect the African continent.

LONG-TERM STRATEGIES

  • Strengthen Health Systems: We work to bolster the capacity of health systems to manage HIV and TB effectively, ensuring sustainability and resilience.
  • Promote Research and Development: The hubs encourage research into new treatments, vaccines, and diagnostics for HIV and TB, fostering innovation that can lead to breakthroughs in disease control.
  • Advocate for Policy Change: We engage with policymakers to prioritize HIV and TB within national health agendas and to allocate sufficient resources for combating these diseases.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

  • Empowerment Through Education: We provide education and resources to communities, enabling them to take an active role in preventing and managing HIV and TB.
  • Support Networks: The hubs facilitate the creation of support networks for individuals and families affected by HIV and TB, promoting mental health and social well-being.

What We Do

The Africa HIV and TB Hubs do the following:

Combat HIV/AIDS:

We implement comprehensive HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support programs, focusing on high-risk populations and areas with high prevalence rates.

Fight Tuberculosis:

The hubs support TB control efforts through improved diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategies, including addressing drug-resistant TB strains.

Integrated Approach:

Recognizing the co-infection rates of HIV and TB, our programs are designed to provide integrated services that address both diseases simultaneously.

Why We Do It

The Africa HIV and TB Hubs do it because:

HIV and TB pose a significant burden:

HIV and TB pose a significant burden on the health and economic stability of African nations. Our commitment is to reduce the incidence and mortality of these diseases, improving the quality of life for affected individuals and communities.

Partnerships and Collaboration

  • Global and Local Partnerships: We collaborate with international agencies, local governments, and community organizations to align efforts and maximize impact.
  • Private Sector Engagement: The hubs seek partnerships with the private sector to leverage resources, expertise, and innovation in the fight against HIV and TB.
