Overview

The Africa Transparency and Anti-Corruption Hub is a center that aims to transform Africa’s governance by promoting transparency and combating corruption. The hub was launched in 2023 by the Africa Economic Forum International Development, with the support of other partners. The hub provides technical assistance, training, and funding for transparency and anti-corruption initiatives in Africa. The hub also facilitates the sharing of knowledge, experience, and best practices among the African governance stakeholders. The hub covers four main thematic areas: public sector transparency, corporate integrity, anti-corruption law enforcement, and civic participation. The hub has partnered with several African countries and regions, such as Ethiopia, Nigeria, Rwanda, and the West African Governance Organization.

What We Do

The Africa Transparency and Anti-Corruption Hub does the following:

Promote public sector transparency:

The hub promotes public sector transparency, which means that public institutions operate openly and publish information about their activities. The hub works with national and regional authorities, institutions, and organizations to develop and implement policies and programs that ensure the openness, accountability, and integrity of public institutions. The hub also advocates for the right to information and the use of open data.

Enhance corporate integrity:

The hub enhances corporate integrity, which means that businesses operate ethically and responsibly. The hub works with businesses, industry associations, and regulators to develop and implement policies and programs that ensure the honesty, fairness, and responsibility of business practices. The hub also supports the implementation of corporate governance standards and the promotion of business ethics and corporate social responsibility.

Strengthen anti-corruption law enforcement:

The hub strengthens anti-corruption law enforcement, which means that corruption is prevented, detected, and punished. The hub works with law enforcement agencies, judiciary, and anti-corruption bodies to develop and implement policies and programs that ensure the effectiveness and fairness of anti-corruption law enforcement. The hub also supports the training, capacity building, and international cooperation of anti-corruption law enforcement.

Encourage civic participation:

The hub encourages civic participation, which means that citizens are involved in the decision-making and oversight of public affairs. The hub works with civil society organizations, media, and citizens to develop and implement policies and programs that ensure the freedom, capacity, and opportunity of civic participation. The hub also supports the empowerment, mobilization, and protection of civil society and the promotion of civic education and public awareness.

Why We Do It

The Africa Transparency and Anti-Corruption Hub does it because:

Transparency and anti-corruption are essential for sustainable development. Transparency and anti-corruption are fundamental principles and effective means of sustainable development. They can help improve the efficiency and equity of public resources management, the trust and legitimacy of public institutions, the competitiveness and sustainability of businesses, and the empowerment and well-being of citizens. They can also contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, such as reducing poverty, improving health and education, promoting economic growth and innovation, protecting the environment, and building peace and justice.
